New Job, You need a good CV and Covering letter
Whatever job you are after you need to make the right impression quickly and professionally.
If you apply for a job, any job, the people looking to recruit want to shortlist quickly so you need a clear CV/Resume and a covering letter, which will hopefully give a brief summary of what you do and what you are about. Your CV/Resume can go into a bit more detail but again make sure you are concise and to the point.
Lets looks a company that has recieved 80 CV’s, there maybe one or two people shortlisting so if your CV is in that pile it needs to grab their attention so it gets moved to the shortlisting pile.
How do I do that? Well you need read carefully what the new employer is after and make sure your CV is relevant to the post you are applying for.
Make sure you put your experience down clearly and don’t be shy but don’t overdo it
- If you have been a cleaner for 10 years and own your own car make sure that is clear.
- If you specialise in something they do make sure you make that clear.
- Give a brief overview of your experience and qualifications.
- Check you spelling and grammar.
- Be precise
- Give any information about volunteer work or work experience
What shouldn’t I do?
- Waffle
- Boast
- Put unnecessary information
- Have grammar or spelling mistakes
The covering letter should be short and to the point and leading the employer nicely onto the CV/Resume.
I am a school/college leaver and never had a job?
Doesn’t matter. Do the same thing, with a nice covering letter about youself and why you think the job meets yours skills and the on the CV give you basic details and qualifications no matter what they are. Just try to highlight your enthusiasm and resons for wanting the job.
